Fostering creativity
Remediana Dias
Modern trends in education have as their aim the liberation of the creative spirit. In a stimulating physical and social environment, children show great potential for creative work in art, drama, movement and writing, in the study of the environment and in the art of social living.
Children naturally tend to be creative but their creativity is suppressed as a result of our authoritarian systems of education. In our lecture- oriented teaching there is very little chance for us to discover the creative potentials of children. The discovery and development of the creative genius of our students should be of prime importance in our education system. Teachers, therefore, have a great responsibility to society to see that this ability is manifested to the maximum.
