The Open Day featured a diverse array of activities designed to engage and inspire visitors of all ages. Departments and centres across the campus organized popular lectures, experimental demonstrations, poster presentations, quiz contests, scientific competitions, and exhibitions. - Department of Civil Engineering featured a fascinating exhibit on crowd control risk models, using real-time sensor data. This system which had collected data during the Maha Kumbh Mela, demonstrated how data analytics can help prevent stampedes and manage large gatherings efficiently henceforth.
- Centre for Water Sciences demonstrated a ground water survey and forecasting model that utilizes satellite and sensor data. Visitors learned how this technology helps predict water availability and manage resources sustainably.
- Department of Mechanical Engineering displayed the quirky Cibycle, a bicycle that turns left when the handlebars are turned right, and vice versa. This counterintuitive engineering experiment had visitors attempting (and failing) to ride it, emphasizing the importance of muscle memory and adaptability in mechanical control systems.
- Department of Materials Science allowed visitors to play with an intriguing non-Newtonian fluid – a type of “play dough” that felt gooey when a hand was gently immersed but turned rock solid when punched. This demonstration beautifully illustrated the principles of rheology and material behaviour under different forces.
